With the inauguration of the Mobile Simulation Center-UCR, overseen and run by the School of Nursing of the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), Latin America gets its first mobile healthcare simulation training center and now has the potential to provide adjacent areas with essential emergency health services that can benefit the entire nation.
Part of CESISA UCR, and currently classified as an International Training Center by the American Heart Association (AHA), the Mobile Simulation Center is equipped with two simulation rooms and a fully stocked control room. The center will be used primarily for the simulation-based training of students and health practitioners (including registered nurses and similar professional clinicians). Risk-free training on simulators will give learners the unmatched opportunity to practice and hone skills in patient care procedures well before they encounter a real person.
According to Seidy Mora Quirós, coordinator of the Center for Simulation in Health (CESISA-UCR), clinical simulation has become an indispensable methodological strategy to guarantee patient safety, as well as the quality of learning.
For 12 years, the School of Nursing of the UCR has managed to incorporate state-of-the-art technology in this modern teaching method, which will ultimately benefit the country when these students, already professionals, practice their profession in a humanitarian manner.

"Our dream has always been to realize scenarios that demonstrate what we enact, multi, inter and transdisciplinarity, as it should be in the real scenario, in which no discipline acts alone when providing care," said Ligia Murillo Castro, director of the School of Nursing.
Now, through the Mobile Simulation Center, the UCR School of Nursing strengthens its commitment to Costa Rica, by providing training that will benefit the health of the population.
Most notably, the UCR Mobile Simulation Center will be able to expand teaching in different healthcare scenarios when and where needed. An estimated 72 clinical, technical and non-technical procedures may be practiced within the center, including
