In late 2017, Collin College joined a very exclusive group. Its outstanding nursing simulation program earned the North Texas public college a designation by CAE Healthcare as a Center of Excellence for exemplifying “best practices in the use of simulation-based training to improve patient care.”
Being recognized as a CAE Healthcare Center of Excellence is a rare honor that only has been bestowed upon a handful of innovative healthcare training centers worldwide, and Collin College is more than deserving.
Since its founding in 1985, Collin College has grown considerably in size and prestige. From serving just 5,000 students in its early days to now supporting the education and skills development of more than 53,000 credit and continuing education degree candidates, the college successfully provides a wide range of academic programs.
In a recent press release announcing the CoE designation, Dean of Nursing Donna Hatch, commented on the vital role that simulation plays in training the school’s student nurses, stating, “We are elated to earn this Center of Excellence designation recognizing the time and effort our staff puts into that training.”
Nursing education at Collin College promotes excellence in healthcare through realistic simulation training and the use of CAE Healthcare’s world-class and award-winning technologies. Some of the healthcare simulation learning tools utilized by Collin College include:
CAE Juno clinical skills manikin for diagnosis, assessment and patient care
CAE Lucina for normal labor and childbirth as well as emergency scenarios
CAE Apollo (Nursing configuration) for practicing patient care procedures
CAE Vimedix ultrasound simulator with 3D interfaces for accelerated learning
“The CoE designation recognizes leaders on the cutting edge of healthcare simulation who are driven by a pioneering vision to advance simulation and evidence-based outcomes,” said Dr. Robert Amyot, president of CAE Healthcare.
