METIman battery

My lab received METIman a few weeks ago. I am slowly learning about it. I read that the battery lasts for about 4 hours. Does the row of lights on the side of the battery indicate its charge? Another question- Does the battery go into a type of sleep mode? Situation- I turned on METI and set up the adult healthy man scenario. Everything worked fine. When I returned to the lab about 90 minutes later, METI's chest did not rise, nor his eyes blink--but breath sounds were heard and vocal worked fine. I closed out the scenario and brought it up again and the chest and eyes worked!! I looked at the battery--the red light went up to the next to last dot.

I'm not sure how to know when it needs to be recharged. Does it shorten the battery's life to recharge before it drains completely?

Thank you for your recent post. I apologize for the delayed response. The row of lights on the side of the battery reflect the amount of charge the battery currently has. There is no sleep mode for the battery. I am unsure why the simulator paused. The computer may have entered a sleep mode. The battery needs to be charged when only the last light on the side is illuminated. The battery does not charge when power is plugged into the simulator. It must be removed from the simulator and charged with the battery charger that would have been sent with the simulator supplies. The battery does not have a shortened life by charging early.

Thanks for replying. Do I need to use the battery at all times or just when there is no electrical outlet?

I am going to check closer about the computer going into sleep mode and see if it is related to the cessation of METI's blinking and breathing.

You only need the battery when you do not want to use AC power. If you are not moving the simulator around I would recommend that you use AC power. Also, I would keep the charged battery in the simulator in case the power cord is accidentally removed. The simulator automatically goes to the battery back up with out shutting down. That is a suggestion, not a must. The simulator will run on AC power alone. If the power cord is removed without the battery the simulator will shut down.

I did find that the blinking/breathing was related to the program going into sleep mode. The computer is now set up that prevents sleep mode. Tech from METI recommended this. Also, METIman needs to lay completely flat for best function. By lowering the HOB, the blinking/breathing improved dramatically. Thanks for getting me in the right direction!

Actually, METIman can be placed in a 45 degree angle which should be fine for blinking and breathing.

Yes, Meti will blink and breath with raised HOB. But it is stronger when he is flat--at least that is what I observed this past week. The METI tech recommended that Meti be left in flat position when not using. I 'll be interested if you find that blinking and breathing is stronger in a flat position. Let me know.
